Introduction to Inner ear infection
Ear infections are very common. There are different types of ear infections, inner ear infection, middle ear infection and acute ear infection. The inner ear infection is the most serious infection of them all. Middle ear infection is common amongst children. And inner ear infection is mostly common amongst adults. Sometimes middle ear infection maybe so severe that it may infect the inner ear and cause inner ear infection. But there are many other reasons for the inner ear infection.
Your inner ear is made up of tubes and canals which are connected to our brain. Through these tubes messages are sent for two things. One of the messages is our hearing ability and the other is the movement of our head. So if this part of the ear gets infected then these functions will also be affected.
Initially when one’s inner ear is infected, one may have fever, headaches, neck and joint pain, vomiting, double vision and ringing in the ear. These are the earlier symptoms of inner ear infection. Patients may even have temporary hearing loss.
When the infection gets more serious then there are different symptoms for it. Movement of your head causes you a lot of pain. Depression, anxiety, fatigue and panic attacks also become more frequent. Sometimes your speech is also impaired. This may also cause permanent hearing loss. Patients of this ear infection also suffer from vertigo. Vertigo is another symptom of the later stage of infection and it is when a person has the sensation of spinning but it’s different from dizziness.
Causes of inner ear infection
There are many reasons for an inner ear infection. The most obvious on is that if a person has middle ear infection and it spreads towards the inner ear. Then obviously it will lead to an inner ear infection. And if this ear infection further spreads then it can go towards the brain lining. And this will turn into a very serious illness, like meningitis.
The other causes could be virus or flu, head or ear trauma, tumor and allergies. Bacterial invasion in the inner ear can also cause infection. These problems can inflame the fluid filled tubes in the inner ear and this can lead to inner ear infection. Infections also occur if you have a weak immune system. Your body is so weak that it easily catches viruses and other infectious diseases.
Anxiety and panic attacks are a common side effect for this kind of ear infection. So you just have to calm yourself down.
