Guidelines to get relief from tendonitis knee

Repetition of stress to the tendons often results in microtearing of the tendon sheath resulting in inflammation of the tendons, a condition known as tendonitis knee.  Sports that use repetitive motions such as swimming, baseball, water polo, and football (some positions), as well as throwing and jumping sports, carry increased risk of tendonitis. Tendonitis knee may also be caused by improper body mechanics or poor conditioning. Symptoms include general soreness and point tenderness, with or without motion and possible mild swelling. Massage the area with ice for 7 to 10 minutes, four times a day. If the injury does not improve within one to two weeks, the athlete should see a physician. Anti-inflammatory medicine or additional treatment, such as ultra-sound therapy, may be prescribed by the physician.
